Looking for a convenient and affordable way to complete your home-cooked meals with fresh, healthy produce?

Through the Community Foodshare project, Farmer Foodshare works collaboratively with a network of local organizations to provide fresh, North Carolina grown produce, nutrition tips, and recipes to community members. Fresh food bundles ("shares") are picked up at a partner site (Reality Ministries in Durham). You can purchase shares for yourself and/or sponsor a family in need. Either way, you're giving back to the community!

Every share purchased or donated helps to build new markets for local farmers and improve access to fresh, local food for hungry North Carolinians.

 Frequently Asked Questions

What's in a "share?"

Fresh food bundles, or "shares," vary from week to week. You’ll find abundant and diverse servings of 5-6 fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruit in each bundle.

Example: 1 dozen eggs | 1 pound of apples | 1 bunch of carrots | 1 bag of washed lettuce | 2 pounds of sweet potatoes | 1 bunch of kale

Can I pay for my share by the week?

You can pay for the full season or on a weekly basis. This plan is flexible: you can pay according to your budget, and for the weeks you need. We do ask that you register and pay for each bundle in advance, which enables us to plan and pay our farmers.

We offer 3 methods of payment:

  • Credit card (available for pre-payment of the full season only). You will receive the link for making your online payment once you submit the registration form.

  • Check. Please make checks payable to Farmer Foodshare and put Community Foodshare in the memo line. Checks can be mailed or delivered to 902 N Mangum Street, Durham, NC 27701. Alternatively, you can bring payment for the first two weeks to the first pick-up, and each week thereafter.

  • Cash. Please bring your cash payment for the first two weeks to the first pick-up, and each week thereafter.

Who receives the donated shares?

Donated shares go to local families facing food insecurity who have been referred to us by our community partners including Communities in Partnership, Iglesia Hispana Emanuel, Reality Ministries, and others in the East Durham community. All donated shares costs are tax-deductible.

Can I refer someone to receive a donated share?

Absolutely! To refer a household or individual to participate in the program, contact Katy Phillips at katy@farmerfoodshare.org or at 919.381.0671.

What if I'm out of town and am unable to pick up my share?

Please let us know at least a week in advance if you won't be able to pick up a share. This ensures that we do not order unneeded food from our farmers.

If you have already paid for the full season, you can also ask a friend or family member to pick up your box for you. This is a great way to share the gift of fresh food!

What other ways can I support Farmer Foodshare?
