When connecting local produce to local eaters, we find that people often encounter produce they haven't tried before, or don't know how to use. Farmer Foodshare is excited to launch Food Ambassadors, a program designed to fill in the knowledge gaps that might prevent people from eating and enjoying fresh food. With the guidance of locally grown, nationally known cookbook author and recipe developer extraordinaire, Sheri Castle, volunteer trainings will begin starting later this month. Sheri's most recent book, The New Southern Garden Cookbook, made the New York Times notable book list, and the Washington Post's recommended book list. Using Sheri's guidance and expertise, volunteer "Ambassadors" will learn to provide cooking demos and food preparation assistance to community members at risk of hunger who receive fresh food through our Donation Stations and POP Market. Additionally, Farmer Foodshare provides educational resources, like Veggie Fact Sheets and a collection of simple recipes for seasonal cooking.
