Four Hundred Children Experience Farm to Fork Feast!

This summer, Farmer Foodshare’s FreshKids! and POP Food Market are providing farm fresh snacks to 400 children attending two nonprofit agency summer camps in Chapel Hill and Durham. (That is 1400 snacks!) The camps work with children from five to seventeen years old.

Kids at Student U and Chapel of the Cross Vacation Church School will eat their way through the best fruits and vegetables that North Carolina Piedmont farms can offer. They’ll learn about the farmers and some fun facts about the food they are eating. They’ll have special treats from bakers and cheesemakers, too.

Melons, beans, carrots, berries, fresh hardboiled eggs, naan, feta cheese, honey, cherry tomatoes…it is a true Farm to Fork feast.

Here are some of our snack prep volunteers at Chapel of the Cross Vacation Church School. Day One theme was “Foods from the Garden of Eden.” The volunteers prepared platters of cucumbers, carrots, beans and peppers for dipping in hummus and spinach dip. The children demolished the platters of vegetables. Only a few stray seeds were left at the end.
