A Letter from the Board

Dear Farmer Foodshare Friends and Community,

I am writing to inform you that Margaret Gifford, our Founder and Executive Director, is leaving her current post with Farmer Foodshare in early 2014.  To ease the longstanding burdens of maintaining a two-state family, Margaret will be moving to New York City where she and her daughter Sophie can unite with her husband John, who works in NYC for the New York Times. She and all of the Board members, staff, and volunteers regret that her move is necessary, but we are united in supporting her plans for her family.

Since founding the organization in 2009, Margaret has provided visionary leadership for Farmer Foodshare. During her 4-year tenure, Margaret built a vibrant non-profit organization from the ground up. As a result of her commitment and the work of many talented staff, volunteers and partners, Farmer Foodshare connects the most food insecure populations in North Carolina with healthy, local food.

Our mission remains more vital and important than ever.

The Board is working closely with Margaret, Gini and other staff to ensure a smooth transition. We do not expect that these changes will impact your experience with Farmer Foodshare, and we will keep you informed if future organizational changes occur and our organization grows. We remain steadfast in our commitment to find new opportunities to connect those who grow food with people who need food, while building healthy community food systems and enhancing community economic development.

Margaret’s leadership has positioned the organization to connect even more people who grow food to those who need it most. We are deeply grateful, and wish Margaret and her family all the best as she moves forward with a new chapter of her life.

Sincerely,

Maggie West
