A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to eat with members and chefs at Club Nova, our Chapel Hill Donation Station recipient agency. Club Nova serves members of the community who live with mental illness, providing them with a caring environment where they may rehabilitate, reintegrate and serve one another. It has been a wonderful partnership for Farmer Foodshare. We love to include our recipients in the purchasing of the food at Market. Club Nova often lets us know what to purchase for the following week’s menu. If their kitchen is overflowing with eggs from the donations the week before, we will decide to purchase other staples for their meals. This helps our volunteers know what to buy and also benefits the chefs in the kitchen so they sometimes know what they are getting. In addition, there is always a wonderful surplus from the farmers’ donations at the end of Market!

Lauren Hart is Club Nova’s culinary director extraordinaire! She makes every meal a treat for the palette with her creative and diverse menus each week. She uses the food received from the Donation Station at the Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market to craft her meals and pulls members of the clubhouse into the kitchen to help out.  Bryan Meade, pictured here, is one of those members who often takes charge in the kitchen. If I didn't know better I would have put him as Club Nova's sous chef! He certainly knows how to sauté some greens! I am not sure what all was in that pot, but the aroma had me sitting at the table for a Club Nova lunchtime meal. It was delicious.

Club Nova members and staff will be attending the Chapel Hill Farmers Market on April 19th for their Saturday social this coming month. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Chapel Hill community, along with the farmers to meet the community they are supporting. So come out and visit with members of Club Nova at the Donation Station!
