Farm to Family CSA
YOU CAN BUY A WEEKLY BOX OF LOCAL PRODUCE FOR A FAMILY FACING HUNGER
Farm to Family CSA is a new outreach effort from Farmer Foodshare to provide predictable amounts of fresh local food to families who are at risk for hunger or malnutrition and who can’t easily access food pantries.
The Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model gives the opportunity to individuals and families to buy local, seasonal food directly from the farmer. Interested customers purchase a share (aka a “membership” or a “subscription”) and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
The CSA model helps the farmers’ need for capital at the beginning of the growing season, but the lump payment may prevent many low-income individuals and families from participating. Through the help of our local urgent hunger agencies, Farm to Family will be able to identify families in need and then buy CSA shares for these agencies to distribute accordingly. Any farmer at a Farmer Foodshare Donation Station market can participate. Farmers can provide a option for their CSA customers to “Buy one. Give one.” Committed CSA members may choose to purchase shares for these families, which ensures farmers receive fair price, but also ensures healthy food for our hungry families.
You can donate and earmark your funds for a CSA for a particular farm, or from a particular market. CSA prices range from $200 - $800, but smaller donations are great – and will be pooled with other funds for each farm or market.
100% of funds will go only to food purchases from farmers for families identified as in particular need by our partner agencies. All donations are fully tax deductible.
