14,900 pounds of produce donated to local people in need

From Oct 2020-Feb 2021, Farmer Foodshare partnered with Duke University Health Systems and Durham Health & Human Services on a COVID-19 Food Box Program in Durham County.

The program was designed to provide assistance to quarantined folks or those at high risk of contracting COVID. Our goal was to include enough quantity and variety of fresh food to get people through a 2-week quarantine without going to the store.

The boxes included fresh local produce such as apples, collards, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and turnips, as well as local chicken, milk, and eggs. We also included dry goods such as rice, beans, peanut butter, and oatmeal.

From this program alone, we procured over 14,900 pounds of local food to distribute to 539 households over a cumulative 3.5 months and generated over $22,500 exclusively for NC farmers!

Thank you to all of our partners who helped made this possible!
