Bates Whitaker is a communications professional based in Durham, North Carolina. Since graduating from Anderson University in 2021, he has built a career in nonprofit communications, with experience spanning conservation, food security, and humanitarian organizations. His work centers on crafting compelling stories that engage audiences, strengthen communities, and advance mission-driven causes.

Bates was first introduced to Farmer Foodshare while working as a beekeeper at Bee Downtown, where he managed the hives located adjacent to the organization’s headquarters. He is passionate about using storytelling to connect people with the issues that matter most and believes effective communication can inspire meaningful action and lasting impact.

Outside of work, Bates enjoys tending his backyard permaculture garden, writing poetry, and spending time outdoors. He can often be found exploring nature with friends, his partner Anna, and their dog, Olive.
