Bravo Steaks: Emily Barnes’ Pasture-Raised Livestock

Emily Barnes grew up in Guilford County on a small farm. Now, she tends her own herd of livestock just 25 miles north of Greensboro. On rolling, biodiverse hills in Summerfield, NC, Emily and her husband raise heritage-breed Berkshire pigs, as well as Angus, Hereford, and crossbred cattle.  

Dedicated to sustainability, quality care for their animals, and superior flavor, their livestock are life-time pasture-raised and never receive growth hormones. The farm produces pork, dry-aged beef, and a variety of other meat products and farm goods made in commitment to whole-animal butcher practices.   

Bravo Steaks is also an ally in food access. For every box of meat shipped, the farm donates one pound of beef or pork to neighbors facing food insecurity. Since Bravo Steaks began in 2019, more than 10,000 meals have been donated to the emergency food system. Farmer Foodshare received some meat donations this past December, and we will partner with Bravo Steaks again to source protein options for our CSA boxes.
