Fishel’s Organics: Fresh Veggies and Fraser Firs from Ashe County

Tucked away down a winding mountain road in Ashe County sits groves of Fraser firs. Fishel’s Organics began as a Christmas tree farm, run by the Fishel Family in Grassy Creek, NC. Established more than 20 years ago, the farm is now certified organic and grows all sorts of seasonal crops, from artisan tomatoes to curly kale. After decades of tree tending, Sanford and Debbie sought a new chapter for their farm. With Sanford’s background in gardening and soil and water conservation, their interest turned toward organic food, and they received their USDA certification from Clemson University in 2012.  

The Fishels joined our farmer network this summer, supplying us with a variety of produce for our food box program, CSA, and wholesale partners. They’ll be our primary source for pumpkins this fall. We always love welcoming new local growers to the Farmer Foodshare community.
