Pine Knot Farm: A 110-Year-Old Family Farm

This month, we’re highlighting Pine Knot Farms, a Black-owned and operated certified organic farm in Hurdle Mills, just 12 miles north of Hillsborough. Pine Knot is currently run by Stanley Hughes and Linda Leach-Hughes and has been in operation for over 110 years. The farm is made up of over 125 acres and was originally purchased by Stanley’s grandfather in 1912. In 2022, Stanley and Linda were named as the Rural Entrepreneurs of the Year by the NC Rural Center.

They are known for growing several beautiful varieties of sweet potatoes, which we’ve carried through our Food Hub program. They also pasture raise hogs and chickens in addition to their organic produce. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to support their farm through our food hub.
