Smith’s Nursery: Rescued Harvests and Rebuilt Barns

Smith’s Nursery is a third-generation farm market and garden center in Benson, NC. A former tobacco farm, they now grow heirloom & slicer tomatoes, mini-English cucumbers, peppers, field strawberries, starter plants, and much, much more, out in the field and in high tunnels.

Smith’s joined Farmer Foodshare’s sourcing network in 2023 as part of our small farm recruitment for the FarmsSHARE program. Their fresh fruits and vegetables feed people all over the Triangle experiencing food insecurity.

Last summer, the farm suffered a fire, the incident resulting in a total loss of their packing shed. After months of rebuilding – including a new kitchen expansion – Smith’s produce has returned to our availability list! 

First-of-the-season, tunnel-grown slicer tomatoes are available for order, and we’re happy to be sharing them once again with our wholesale food service partners.
