Tidewater Grain Company: Regenerative Heirloom Rice

It’s not just fruits and vegetables around here. We’ve been known to supply all sorts of farm goods, and we are proud to source rice from Tidewater Grain Co., locally grown in Pamlico County, NC.  

These grains aren’t just special because they’re all-natural, non-GMO, and gluten-free. Tidewater’s core grains — Carolina Gold and Santee Long Grain — are heirloom varietals, which means they sustain biodiversity, preserve quality crop characteristics, protect true-to-type seed saving, keep us rooted in culinary history, and ultimately contribute to a resilient food system.  

Tidewater’s revitalization of dormant crops isn’t the only way they support NC agriculture. Farmers Al and Tommy make the most of the entire crop, selling whole grains, middlins, flours, bran, and husk as quality food products, animal feed, and natural soil fertilizer alternatives.  

Tidewater Grain Co. joined our farmer network in 2023. They’re fellow Got to Be NC members and help keep our community fed through our box program and wholesale partnerships
