White Family Urban Farm: Hydroponic Foods From Winston-Salem

Mushrooms and microgreens. That’s what farmers Cedric and Allison grow in their garage-turned-hydroponic-farm in Winston-Salem, NC.

Hydroponic farming is efficient with both water and space. Plants can grow faster and receive all necessary nutrients in a more controlled environment. The method also reduces issues related to pests, weeds, and soil conditions.

When Cedric and Allison decided to pursue their dream and establish White Family Urban Farm, they knew hydroponics was right for them. The farm is USDA GAP Certified, which means these aren’t just any crops. Cedric ensures their gourmet specialty foods are grown as naturally, organically, regeneratively and sustainably as possible. The quality is evident in every variety of vibrant sprouted greens and fungi fruits, and there are many! Micro Red Acre Cabbage, Sango Purple Radish, Amaranth, Dill, and Leek. Black, Blue, Golden, and Floridian Oyster Mushrooms. Lion’s Mane, Reishi, and Chestnut, with more being added as the farm grows.

White Family Urban Farm stays busy. You can find them at the Cobblestone Farmers Market every Saturday. Cedric and Allison also run a produce subscription and launched a CSA program in September, on top of fulfilling wholesale orders with W.R. Vernon Produce Co. Not to mention, they joined our farmer network this spring, and we’ve been delighted to include their delicious, homegrown mushrooms on our availability list for our wholesale customers.
